Opportunity Zone professionals and distinguished judges gathered for the virtual America's Top Project showcase on Dec. 2 to crown America’s best projects.

After 11 finalists competed for the coveted title of America’s Top Project during the country’s unique shark tank-style competition, the judges selected the Florida Lakes RV Resort as the overall winner. Scheduled to open in 2023, the upscale Florida Lakes RV Resort in Sebring offers lake activities, state park hiking and nearby golf courses. Ed Rymer accepted the winning award.

The judges selected North Country Growers as the winner of America’s Most Impactful Project. The project is building greenhouses integrated with combined heat and power facilities to grow vegetables for the Northeastern United States.

OZ judges included Craig Bernstein of OPZ Capital, Nick Gonzalvez of Bridge Investment Group, Susan Rounds of Deutsche Bank, Louis Dubin of Redbrick and Governor Jared Polis of Colorado.

Participants also had a chance to vote for winners and crowned their own projects: Heritage Point Canalside by Sinatra & Co, a $40 million mixed-use development in the Canalside waterfront district of Buffalo, New York, took home America’s Top Project. The audience then selected Hornell Assisted Living, a $20 million project located in the upstate of Hornell, NY, as America’s Most Impactful Project.

Other competitors included: Nomadic OZ, Chicago MusicTown, Saxum Real Estate, StarPoint Properties, Verte Opportunity Fund, Eagle OZ and LRT Development.

Ten distinguished panelists also shared their insight in two educational panels about end of year investing considerations and the OZ program’s status under the Biden administration.
